Business Day Calendars

T+1 settlement dates

Since 28 May 2024, most US broker-dealer securities trades settle one business day after the trade date (T+1), under the SEC's amendment to Rule 15c6-1. Before that the standard was T+2.

Counting the business day

Settlement needs both the market and the payment system open, so the usual joint calendar is NYSE + Federal Reserve. The two differ: when a holiday falls on Saturday, NYSE closes on Friday but the Fed stays open; Columbus Day and Veterans Day close the Fed but not NYSE. A day counts only if both are open.
